Artificial stone and artificial stone surfaces - in Latvia, technically different materials are called artificial stone.

Akmens Dizains only works with hard and durable materials that will not only look good when the object is handed over, but will not lose their original appearance, scratch or discolour during use. We work with artificial stone, or "man-made" stone Quartz and Ceramic, both materials that have proven themselves over time, with the world's leading kitchen brands choosing Quartz and Ceramic as their recommended surface materials, which is saying a lot.

Acrylic alloys, or plastics, are also often referred to as artificial stone. The biggest advantage of these materials is that the surfaces can be cast in different configurations and without visible seams. All these composite/acrylic alloys are soft and deform with temperature. Therefore, such materials can be used to cast, for example, sinks seamlessly with the surface. Such surfaces are not resistant to technical damage, are relatively soft and easily scratched. The material is not heat-resistant, hot objects must not be placed on such surfaces and hot liquids must not be used in artificial stone sinks, thereby irreparably damaging the surfaces. It is particularly important not to choose dark or brightly coloured acrylic materials, as damage is particularly visible on brightly coloured materials.

Artificial stone - quartz and ceramic or Artificial stone acrylic alloy? Solid materials will always have a more or less visible joint, but acrylic materials do not have visible joints and can be made with a solid surface. Solid materials do not scratch and do not change the original shade, acrylic materials scratch and change the shade, but on light surfaces this is not clearly visible. Dark shades are also not recommended by the manufacturer for acrylic surfaces.
